Happy New Year. It has certainly been a busy week as we welcomed incoming Gov. Gavin Newsom and said farewell to former Gov. Jerry Brown. Just as Gov. Newsom is expanding his team, we’ve been steadily building out our own foundation here at FHA. As we launch into 2019, we have some exciting new developments to share with our clients, colleagues and friends.

FHA is expanding its Sacramento footprint, adding two additional professionals to our State Capitol team as we deploy communications strategies to support legislative advocacy campaigns, regulatory challenges, public policy development, ballot measures and public awareness programs.

With two decades of experience around the State Capitol and specializing in public affairs, legislative advocacy, crisis and corporate reputation work for Fortune 500 companies, Jessica Biller is joining FHA as a Senior Counselor. Jessica has developed specialized issue expertise in state and local government, healthcare, energy, manufacturing, agriculture, sports/entertainment and land use, and brings deep experience working in public relations/public affairs agencies – including the Sacramento powerhouse Lucas Public Affairs and Porter Novelli.

Shannon Flaherty has been named Senior Account Executive, adding a dynamic and contemporary understanding of the Capitol News Bureau, California State Legislature, politics and public policy. Shannon most recently served as a Communications Director in the California State Assembly and as an Account Executive at Mercury Public Affairs, where she focused on advocacy communications, media relations and digital media.

Decisions being made in Sacramento factor into virtually everything our clients do today – from challenging corporate and regulatory issues to complex policy changes.  This is why FHA made the announcement last fall that we’re officially hanging our hat in the Capitol of the Golden State. This future-forward move firmly places FHA at the center of its capabilities, leveraging the depth and breadth of public affairs experience at the agency, and supports collaboration amongst our Sacramento-based clients, partners and comrades.

In addition to this expansion of our Sacramento office, FHA has further solidified its senior management team naming Dagny Akeyson as Vice President. A proven, committed practitioner, Dagny has worked at FHA for nearly six years, building an impressive career and unparalleled skill sets – amazing writer, fantastic ability to connect authentically with clients, media relations wizard and a quick study and steward of all things public affairs/political in Los Angeles and the State Capitol. In her management capacity, she is evolving as an incredibly strong, compassionate, and thoughtful leader at FHA. Dagny joins a rock solid bench of senior leaders at FHA that are well prepared to dream up and deliver upon client strategies, groom and grow our junior team members and help me drive our company culture.

Hope this transition into 2019 is finding you all happy, healthy and professionally fulfilled and challenged. We’re looking forward to a great year and sharing our client services and successes with you.
